The Colosseum was very cool. Tickets to get into the Underground are super hard to get and we just didn't make the cut. What we did see of the main above ground area was still very cool. We listened to the Rick Steves audio tour, which is free from his app and was very informative. In fact, we used his app for a whole bunch of walking tours in Rome and even a couple in Florence.
Exotic animals were often brought in as entertainment in the games: kangaroos, lions, aligators, and even hippos!
Magnolia was disappointed there were no baby hippos currently at the colosseum. Le sigh.
Are you not entertained!?!
At the end of the day, though, it was just a big arena.
There was way more to see at the Forum and Palatine Hill. We spent a whole mess of time exploring these ancient ruins.
You can climb and sit on these.
These ones, not so much.
So it turns out in Ancient Rome there were apartment buildings with shops on the street level.
These were some kind of gardens that people at the palace would work out in, take walks in, etc.
Headless statue along the walkway in the middle of the Forum.
They're everywhere!
