Situated in the hills above Florence, Fiesole pre-dates what we know as Rome. It was founded by the Etruscans in the time of antiquity. In fact, the Etruscans were very influential over Rome and, until they were absorbed into the expanding Roman Empire in the late 4th century BCE, were a dominant power in the region. So, what I'm trying to say is, there is some really, really old stuff to see in Fiesole.
We must appease the beasts before seeing the Very Old Things.
Our first bit was walking along the old 2,000+ year old walls. That's Florence in the background.
This 2,000+ year old theater is still used today for movies and concerts. Eat your heart out, Pink Floyd!
These 2,000+ year old baths are an amazing example of an important part of the social lives of ancient Romans. They were just behind the theater, the other very important part of ancient Roman social life.
Fiesole also has a wonderful museum chock full of artifacts found from prehistory through it's time as part of the Roman diaspora.
Cassidy and Federico tried their hands at drawing some of the things they saw.
These things, like, pre-date Rome.
Insane that this stuff is still around at all.
